The Marion chapter of Students Leading Students (SLS) is inviting all students and staff to participate in the annual, nationwide Red Ribbon Week campaign this coming week. The theme for this week is "Celebrate life. Live alcohol, tobacco, and drug free." Throughout the week SLS members will share information about the dangers of teens using alcohol, tobacco and other drugs through several activities. First, there will be a trivia-question-of the-day to answer digitally. Students and staff will be encouraged to wear red ribbons each day to show their support. During lunch, MHS students can sign the pledge wall to stay away from alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs or try some of the informative activities led by SLS members to raise awareness. Also, students may participate in the following daily dress up themes:
Monday (Oct. 24): Red & White Day-- “Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free.”
Tuesday (Oct. 25): Crazy Sock Day—“Sock it to Drugs!”
Wednesday (Oct. 26): Sunglasses Day—“Shade out drugs!”
Thursday (Oct. 27): College Day—“Be on a drug free team!”
Friday (Oct. 28 half day): Hat Day (preferably red hats)—“Tip your hat goodbye to drugs!” *(Students pay a $1.00 donation to wear a hat and receive a sticker acknowledging their participation. Stickers will be on sale in the MHS cafeteria during breakfast on Friday.)
Teachers may also choose to work with their students and enter the door decorating contest. They simply choose a Red Ribbon Week slogan and design something for their classroom doors. (Judging takes place on Friday morning!) SLS plans to reward those who demonstrate their support of how important it is for teens to avoid alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. So make sure you join in and participate as many times as you can. This means we will have drawings for prizes for those with the best participation. Thank you, everyone for supporting our Red Ribbon Week 2022 campaign. Projects like this would not be possible without your continued support, participation, and donations. Be sure to check out our display of safe messages in front of MHS all week.
